As I take a short break to travel across Europe, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on just how special June was for IOW Adventure Girls UK.
This community continues to blow me away - with your laughter, courage, openness, and the beautiful way you show up for each other and the outdoors. Here’s a little look back at what we shared this month…
Our June Walks: Wild, Warming & Wonder-Filled
Every walk this month brought something different - peaceful, joyful, or downright stunning:
• Newtown Nature Reserve gave us a calm, wildlife-filled wander in one of the most tranquil corners of the island.
• We strolled through the magical Borthwood Copse, surrounded by ancient trees that felt like something out of a storybook.
• Our St Catherine’s Oratory & Hoy Monument walk came with an unexpected detour (thanks cows!) and even more adventure than planned.
• Combley Great Wood wowed us with its bold red trees and peaceful woodland paths.
• From Carisbrooke Castle, we walked through dreamy fields to a breathtaking poppy display - it truly stopped us in our tracks.
• Our Sandown to Shanklin cliff path walk was a warm, golden evening, complete with stunning views and a return along the revetment.
• At The Garlic Farm, we wandered through wildflower-filled meadows before refuelling with a delicious lunch together - heart and belly full.
• And finally, Firestone Copse gave us a serene riverside stroll and leafy green canopy to close out the month in perfect style.
Sea Dips That Sparked Joy
June was also the month our sea dips came into their own - and oh, did they deliver!
• On 2nd June, we held our very first sea dip session at Yaverland - and it was an instant hit! We dried off with cake, warm drinks, and beautiful chats on the beach.
• Our second dip had a quiet kind of magic - just the sea, soft light, and a lovely walk along the sand after. As Monday dips became a regular rhythm, we saw more and more women showing up. The sun showed up too, and it was glorious.
• Our final June dip was wild in the best way - the sea was choppy, we welcomed seven new women, and we laughed non-stop. It was such a fun, freeing evening.
Summer Solstice – A Night to Remember
On 20th June, we gathered on Appley beach for a sunset celebration of the Summer Solstice - and it honestly felt like magic.
We shared food and drinks, took a dreamy dip, and welcomed the turning of the season together. The evening ended with a spontaneous golden-hour photo shoot that captured all the joy and connection we’ve built here. Nights like that are why I started this group. It was unforgettable.
A Little Pause (and a Campervan Adventure!)
As many of our members know, I’m off exploring Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the South of France in my campervan for the next couple of weeks - seeking inspiration, space, and a little adventure of my own. We’ll be back to full activities from Monday 14th July, starting with a sea dip and I cannot wait. Expect walks, swims, yoga, beach hangs, our next camp and more chances to connect with this wild and wonderful community of women.
Thank you for making June so beautiful. Whether you joined us for one event or ten, you are part of something really special. Here’s to wild hearts and salty hair.
Much love, Rachel 💜
